Designing the poster for America Amerique

Designing the poster for America Amerique

When designing the poster for America Amerique we knew we had a powerful theme to work with. (to see the poster bigger click here)

The American story is the story of immigrants. America Amerique, a new play on its first national tour, is a collection of 20 of those stories reflecting actual events drawn from newspapers, court documents, letters and journals depicting the struggles and triumphs of immigrants over the past 150 years.

From Irish potato fields to villages of Asia and Eastern Europe, from the Italian peninsula to New York tenements and Midwestern farms, America Amerique provides a fresh, new look at how we lived and worked, from New England factories and the Transcontinental Railroad to the Mexican border of today and beyond.

For the poster design we created an image that is powerful, striking and touching. The play shows both sides, the good and the bad. Focusing on the rejection of an illegal immigrant we felt we had a poster that was interesting and intriguing, an image that makes you want to learn more…

By marking the man like a cow with the REJECTED stamp makes the piece even more dramatic. Having an elder person like having a child image is always stronger.

The one time performance at the University of Pittsburgh will be February 15th 2010
